Map & Tile Cache Services

Rowan University Geospatial Research Lab hosts the following data as statewide service. These tile caches may be incorporated into your web mapping applications through the use of our helper library.

Use it!

You can easily bring these map tiles into your Google Maps or Leaflet based mashup by incorporating some additional JavaScript code.

First, add our tile loading script to your HTML page:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://gis.rowan.edu/services/map_tiles.js"></script>

Second, identify the tiles you'd like to add to your map. Use the table below for reference. The first column contains the map tile cache name that you'll pass to the script. For instance, if you'd like to add the Landscape Project Habitat tiles to your web map, you will pass the string "landscape" to function.

Now let's incorporate it into your map document. If you're using Google Maps, the code to add the map tiles is:

// for reference
	var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), {
		center: new google.maps.LatLng(39.7, -75.12),
		zoom: 11,
		mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
	});
// two new lines to add to your code
	var tilelayer = new google.maps.MapTileCache("landscape");
	map.overlayMapTypes.insertAt(0, tilelayer);

If you're using Leaflet, you can use this code:

// for reference
	var map = L.map('lmap').setView([39.7, -75.12], 11);
// bring in NJ's aerial photography
	var airphotos = new L.TileLayer.WMS("http://njwebmap.state.nj.us/njimagery", {
		layers: 'Natural2012',
		format: 'image/jpeg&bgcolor=000000',
		transparent: false,
		attribution: "State of New Jersey",
		zIndex: 0
	});
	map.addLayer(airphotos);

// two new lines to add to your code
		var mytiles = new L.MapTileCache("landscape");
		map.addLayer(mytiles);

Finally, if you want to see the code in action, see below for a demo on both Google Maps and Leaflet. You are free
